Labor & Employment

Callender Law Group has experience in representing public sector clients, including community schools and school districts, but also counties, townships, municipal corporations, and agencies. Assisting governmental entities requires knowing not just the law, but also having an understanding of political sensitivities and the local constituency.

Our attorney’s collective experience includes representation of public libraries, county mental health agencies, villages, townships, and other public and quasi-public entities in the process of labor/management disputes and employee/management disputes. This practice area revolves around service to the public, and assisting those entrusted with serving the public to do so as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Policies that are communicated effectively, and employees who receive training on the implementation of effective practices, are in a much better position to meet or exceed expectations. Where a collective bargaining agreement is in place, teacher contract development depends on effective skills, but management must have a firm grasp on what school needs are and negotiators need to be able to communicate and reduce it to writing so the agreement is workable for teachers and administrators while retaining the authority of the Board.

Our attorneys combine their negotiating skills, experience, and training to assist management to ensure that the final result is both practical and effective for both sides, on issues such as:

  • NLRB filings (including ULP complaints), grievances, and petitions
  • EEOC filings
  • Mediation and Arbitration of employment matters
  • Employment/HR audits
  • Employee handbooks
  • Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Employee/Staff seminars and training
  • Employment Terminations, including non-compete agreements, confidentially agreements, employee separation agreements
